Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has revealed why he was absent at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.
Obi’s absence at the high-profile ceremony sparked criticism on social media, with many questioning why the former Anambra State governor failed to attend the event, which was graced by top political leaders and dignitaries across the country.
Why Obi Missed the Burial
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Obi explained that flight challenges prevented him from traveling to Katsina on the day of the burial.
“It was difficult to come yesterday (Tuesday) because there was no flight,” Obi said.
“Even if there was a flight, you couldn’t land at Katsina Airport. It was all closed because of the heavy presence of dignitaries.”

The former presidential candidate later visited Daura on Wednesday to commiserate with Buhari’s family and pay his last respects to the late former president.
- “Mourning continues until tomorrow. So, whoever comes today and tomorrow, is still part of the mourning,” he added.
