ADC Demands Explanation Over President Tinubu’s 5-Day Silence After BRICS Summit.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unexplained five-day absence following the conclusion of the 2025 BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In a statement released on Sunday, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, raised alarm over what the party described as a “mysterious disappearance” of the president between July 7th, when the summit ended, and his quiet return to Abuja five days later, with no official communication on his whereabouts.

  • “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must come clean about where he has been since the BRICS summit ended,” Abdullahi stated.
  • “No updates, no official briefings—just silence. Nigerians deserve better.”

Where Was the President?

The party noted that while other world leaders who attended the summit promptly returned home and resumed national duties, President Tinubu remained missing from public view, sparking speculation and concern among citizens.

The ADC emphasized that no post-summit address, no public explanation, and no statement from the Presidency had been made, leaving a vacuum in governance at a time when Nigeria is facing economic hardship and growing insecurity.

A Pattern of Absence?

According to the ADC, this is not the first time President Tinubu has gone off the radar without a formal explanation.

“We saw it in January 2024 when what was described as a ‘private visit’ to France turned into a two-week disappearance. No photos, no briefings, no handover to the Vice President. Just silence,” Abdullahi said.

The party condemned what it sees as a troubling pattern of unaccountable leadership, stressing that no power was transmitted to Vice President Kashim Shettima, nor was the National Assembly informed, in violation of expectations for transparent governance.

Call for Accountability and Respect for Nigerians

The ADC argued that Nigeria, currently grappling with fuel price hikes, inflation, insecurity, and public unrest, cannot afford a president who disappears without accountability.

“A country in crisis cannot afford a leader who disappears without notice. Leadership demands presence—and more importantly, accountability,” the statement read.

  • The opposition party further accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of treating Nigerians with “disdain” by continuously offering no credible explanations for the president’s unexplained absences.
  • “The APC’s repeated excuses insult the intelligence of Nigerians. We demand transparency—not cover-ups,” Abdullahi concluded.

As of the time of this report, the Presidency has not issued any official response to ADC’s claims or provided clarification on President Tinubu’s whereabouts during the five-day gap.
