NUC Grants Provisional License for Ebonyi State Aeronautics University — Nigeria’s 300th University.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially granted a provisional license to the Ebonyi State Government to establish the Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering in Ezza South Local Government Area.

With this move, Ebonyi becomes home to three state-owned universities, and the newly approved institution is now Nigeria’s 300th university and the 69th state university.

✈ A University for the Skies: What It Means

Speaking during the license presentation ceremony in Abuja on Friday, July 11, 2025, NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, said the university will play a strategic role in aeronautics, aerospace engineering, and other high-tech fields.

“This is not just about adding to the number of universities,” Ribadu stated, “but about creating a world-class institution that will drive research, innovation, and industry collaboration in the aerospace sector.”

🧭 Key Highlights:

  • ✅ Ebonyi’s new varsity will focus on aeronautics, aerospace engineering, mechatronics, and 26 related fields.
  • 📘 The institution must align with the NUC Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS).
  • 📩 A copy of the license will be sent to JAMB, TETFUND, NYSC, and NELFUND for recognition and integration.

Ribadu emphasized the importance of adhering to NUC guidelines, warning that violations could attract sanctions.
