Lagos Local Government Elections: Police Restrict Movement from 3am to 3pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Ahead of the upcoming Lagos State Local Government (LG) elections, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a 12-hour restriction on vehicular movement across the state.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and signed on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, the restriction will take effect from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Key Highlights:

Total Movement Restriction: No vehicles will be allowed on roads or waterways within Lagos State between 3am and 3pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, to ensure peaceful and secure local government elections.

Massive Police Deployment: The police, in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), have made elaborate security arrangements to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officials, and the general public.

No Police Escorts or Armed Aides: Police escorts and armed security personnel are not allowed to accompany their principals to polling units or collation centers, in line with the Electoral Act. The use of sirens and covered number plates around election venues is also strictly prohibited.

Exemptions:

Only essential service vehicles will be permitted to move during the restriction, including:

  • Ambulances
  • Fire service trucks
  • Security patrol vehicles affiliated with ICCES
  • Also exempted are:
  • Duly accredited LASEIC officials
  • Election observers
  • Accredited media personnel
  • Emergency workers on duty

All exempt persons and vehicles must possess and display official identification tags issued or certified by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASEIC).

“No one without an official identification tag will be allowed to participate in the election or gain access to election areas. Offenders will be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted under the Electoral Act,” said CP Jimoh.

  • Deter intimidation and illegal influence
  • Ensure the integrity of the Lagos LG election process

The Lagos Police Command urges all residents to comply with the restriction and to conduct themselves peacefully during the election.
