Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan: Senate Awaits Certified True Copy of Court Judgment Before Action.

The Nigerian Senate has acknowledged the Federal High Court judgment delivered on July 4, 2025, in the case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, but says it is yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling required to guide its next steps.

In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, clarified that the complete judgment was not read in open court, and as such, no enrolled order or official directive has been served on any party.

“The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acknowledges that a judgment was delivered on July 4th by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the suit instituted by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, the Senate is yet to be served with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment,” Adaramodu stated.

No Action Until Judgment Is Reviewed – Senate

The Senate emphasized that it has formally applied for the CTC to enable a comprehensive legal review and to determine whether the judgment explicitly nullifies the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

  • “Since no party has been officially served the enrolled order, no one can act on or enforce any perceived relief or directive,” the statement read.

“Pending receipt and examination of the CTC, and acting on the advice of legal counsel, the Senate shall refrain from taking any step that may prejudice its legal position.”

Senate Reaffirms Commitment to Rule of Law

Senator Adaramodu assured the public that the Senate remains committed to due process and the rule of law, pledging that all actions would be guided by the Nigerian Constitution upon receipt and full clarification of the court’s decision.

“We urge the public to be patient. The Senate will act strictly in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria once the full legal context of the ruling is established.”

The statement follows widespread speculation after the court’s ruling, with many assuming an automatic reversal of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension. However, the Senate’s position makes it clear that no enforcement or reinstatement will occur until the CTC is obtained and properly assessed.
