Wike: We Realized N700 Million in Three Weeks from Tinubu ICC.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the newly renovated Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja generated ₦700 million in just three weeks of operation.

Wike made this disclosure on Sunday during an official Thanksgiving service at St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro, in celebration of the successful completion of several capital projects commissioned by President Bola Tinubu over 19 days.

Former ICC Operator Paid Only ₦50 Million Annually

The FCT Minister expressed shock at the previous arrangement, where the former operator of the ICC paid just ₦50 million annually to the Federal Government.

  • “The man who was running the ICC is from Adamawa, and he was paying only ₦50 million a year to the government,” Wike stated.
  • “These are the same people claiming they want to rescue Nigeria,” he added, in a veiled reference to political opposition.

Tinubu Ordered Immediate Rehabilitation of ICC

Wike recounted how President Tinubu, upon inspecting the state of the International Conference Centre, described it as “an eyesore”, unfit to represent Nigeria on the global stage.

“The President said, ‘This is not quality. This is not the Nigeria we should present to the world.’ He ordered us to shut it down immediately,” Wike said.

The facility was subsequently closed and underwent a complete rehabilitation within six to seven months under Wike’s leadership.

Massive Revenue in Just Three Weeks

Following the relaunch of the ICC, the venue has brought in over ₦700 million in revenue in under a month. A figure that highlights the facility’s potential as a major revenue-generating asset for the Federal Capital Territory.
