In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, top Nigerian opposition leaders have converged at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for the unveiling of a new political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Leading the charge are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, both of whom arrived at the high-profile event alongside other prominent politicians.
Also spotted at the media conference are:
- Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State Governor
- Rotimi Amaechi, ex-Governor of Rivers State
- Senator Dino Melaye
- Solomon Dalung, former Minister of Youth and Sports
- Dele Momodu, media mogul and PDP chieftain
- Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party
- Emeka Ihedioha, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives
- Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd.), former Chief of Air Staff
This grand political alignment is being facilitated through the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has been chosen as the coalition’s official political platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Notably, former Senate President David Mark, who recently exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been named interim national chairman of the ADC. Additionally, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has emerged as the interim national secretary of the restructured ADC.
The coalition brings together members from the PDP, Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other key stakeholders in Nigeria’s political space, signaling a new era of opposition strategy and unity.
