BREAKING: PDP Confirms 100th NEC Meeting for June 30 Amid Internal Crisis.

Amid deepening internal tensions, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Wadata Plaza PDP National Secretariat, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday night, Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, reiterated that the meeting remains valid and binding as scheduled by the 99th NEC held on May 27, 2025. Arapaja firmly dismissed claims of a “Special Expanded National Caucus Meeting,” stating that the PDP Constitution has no provision for such a gathering.

He was flanked by key National Working Committee (NWC) members, including Ali Odefa (South-East Vice Chairman), Acting National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and others. The group expressed unity and commitment to constitutional processes.

“The 100th NEC meeting will proceed as planned. The suggestion for an ‘Expanded Caucus’ is unconstitutional and should be disregarded,” Arapaja stated.

PDP Leadership Rift: NEC vs Expanded Caucus

This clarification comes amid a leadership crisis within the party. A faction loyal to Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum—which includes Nyesom Wike, Governors Bala Mohammed, Caleb Mutfwang, and Adamu Fintiri—has called for the return of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and pushed for postponement of the NEC meeting.

Last week, Damagum announced Anyanwu’s reinstatement and replaced the NEC with an “Expanded National Caucus” meeting, citing a report from a fact-finding session with INEC. However, INEC later declined to acknowledge the NEC postponement, citing procedural irregularities including the lack of a joint signature from the National Chairman and Secretary.

Internal Resistance to Anyanwu’s Return

Opposing Damagum’s camp, another faction including Governor Seyi Makinde and 11 NWC members has rejected Anyanwu’s reinstatement, insisting that only the NEC can approve such a move. They labeled Damagum’s action “misleading” and emphasized adherence to the party’s constitution.

“Section 31(3) of the PDP Constitution (2017 Amendment) makes the June 30 NEC meeting binding. No individual or group has the authority to cancel it,” Arapaja stressed.

NEC Agenda: Zoning & Convention Updates

The NEC is expected to receive reports from the Zoning Committee and the National Convention Organizing Committee in preparation for the PDP National Convention scheduled for August 28–30, 2025.

The PDP leadership called on all stakeholders to uphold internal democracy, rule of law, and due process as outlined in the party’s guiding documents.
