PDP Crisis Deepens: Wike Slams Damagum Over Order to Reinstated Anyanwu.

The ongoing leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a fresh twist on Wednesday as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, lashed out at Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for directing the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to resume duty at the national secretariat.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N20 Interchange Bridge in Abuja, Wike accused Damagum of overstepping his authority and attempting to legitimize what he described as internal “illegalities” within the party.

“The national secretary is not your appointee. He has been doing his job and will continue to do so. You can’t just wake up and ask him to resume. That order holds no water,” Wike stated firmly.

Wike Blasts PDP’s Visit to INEC

The former Rivers State governor also ridiculed the PDP’s recent engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over internal party matters.

  • “A political party going to INEC to ask what to do? That is shameful. The law does not recognize ignorance. If you’re unsure, seek advice, not public disgrace,” Wike said.
  • He accused Damagum and his allies of running the party based on ego and personal gain, warning that such behavior is dangerous for the PDP’s future.
  • “Don’t let monthly allocations or ego drive you. If you want to learn, come to us—we’ll show you how to run a party properly.”

PDP Leadership Adjusts Plans

Amid the heated exchanges, the PDP had earlier announced the reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu into the National Working Committee (NWC) and reversed its initial plan to hold a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30.

According to Damagum, the decision followed a closed-door meeting with INEC officials. He said the party has now scheduled an expanded National Caucus meeting for June 30 instead.

“It was a tough decision, but key stakeholders have accepted it. We are now focusing on unity and internal reconciliation,” Damagum said.

The PDP’s internal power struggle comes at a time when opposition unity is being called for ahead of the 2027 general elections.
