Electricity Restored in North-East Nigeria as TCN Connects New Bauchi Substation to National Grid.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored electricity supply to the six states in the North-East region, following a prolonged power outage that began on June 10, 2025.

In a statement released on Sunday, TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that power was fully restored on June 19, 2025, at 4:45 PM, after the successful connection of the new Bauchi 330/132kV Transmission Substation to the national grid.

New Bauchi Substation Boosts Power Supply to Northeast States

The new Bauchi Transmission Substation, which is one of the largest in the North-East, was energized through the 330kV and 132kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Transmission Lines. The process required the temporary shutdown of the lines to ensure safe integration.

“The transmission lines have now been reconnected back to the grid. Consequently, bulk supply has been restored to Jos and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies, which serve Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Damaturu, Adamawa, and Taraba States,” the statement read.

Improved Power Reliability and Emergency Response

The TCN noted that the commissioning of the Bauchi substation has significantly enhanced electricity reliability, diversified transmission routes, and improved emergency response capabilities across the region.

“This critical project strengthens the transmission network in the North-East and ensures a more stable electricity supply to millions of residents,” said Mbah.

Appreciation for Public Patience During Blackout

Acknowledging the inconvenience faced by residents during the nine-day blackout, TCN expressed gratitude to affected customers for their patience and support during the upgrade.
