President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his official trip to Kaduna State and will instead visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to address the escalating violence and communal killings in the region.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday, June 16, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Tinubu Shifts Focus to Benue Over Rising Insecurity
The statement noted that President Tinubu’s planned visit to commission key projects in Kaduna State will now take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
According to Onanuga, the President decided to prioritize Benue State due to the recurring crises that have claimed several lives and caused widespread destruction across multiple communities.
- “The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction,” the statement reads.
Stakeholders Meeting and Town Hall Scheduled in Benue
As part of his peace mission, President Tinubu will hold a town hall meeting with stakeholders across Benue, including:
- Traditional rulers
- Religious and political leaders
- Community heads
- Youth representatives
The goal is to find a lasting solution to the violence, restore calm, and promote mutual understanding among affected groups.
Top Security Officials Deployed Ahead of Visit
In preparation for the high-level visit, Tinubu has already dispatched top government and security officials to Benue, including:
- The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
- The Inspector General of Police (IGP)
- The National Security Adviser (NSA)
- Heads of intelligence agencies
- Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees
