JUST IN: Dangote Refinery to Begin Petrol and Diesel Distribution Nationwide August 15th.

In a major development for Nigeria’s energy sector, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced it will commence nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel starting August 15, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement released Sunday, revealing the deployment of 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to facilitate fuel distribution across the country.

“This initiative is aimed at eliminating distribution bottlenecks, reducing logistics costs, and improving access to affordable fuel for Nigerians,” the statement read.

The refinery confirmed that the fuel supply will be available to marketers, petrol station owners, manufacturers, telecoms operators, aviation companies, and other large-scale fuel users, with free logistics and delivery support.

Key Highlights:

  • Launch Date: August 15, 2025
  • Fuel Types: Petrol (PMS) and Diesel
  • Distribution Fleet: 4,000 CNG-powered tankers + 100 gas-powered support trucks
  • Beneficiaries: Marketers, major fuel users, and industrial operators
  • Support: Free delivery, credit scheme for bulk buyers (500,000 litres and above)
  • Infrastructure: Daughter booster CNG stations for expanded reach

The company says this strategic nationwide fuel distribution programme aligns with its broader goals to support Nigeria’s economic reforms, promote clean energy, and reduce inflationary pressure.

Aliko Dangote Promises Sector Shake-Up

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, also hinted at a coming “major shake-up” in Nigeria’s downstream sector. He clarified that this move isn’t about a fuel price slash but rather a complete overhaul of the entire distribution system to foster efficiency and sustainability.

His remarks followed President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the $20 billion refinery in Lekki, Lagos, which is now set to redefine Nigeria’s fuel logistics and consumption dynamics.

Tanker Drivers Threaten Strike

The announcement comes amid a looming threat by tanker drivers in Lagos, who have vowed to halt fuel loading activities over the high N12,500 truck charges for the E-Call Up system on the Lekki-Epe Corridor.

What to Expect:

This Dangote Refinery fuel rollout is expected to:

  • Revive dormant filling stations
  • Lower operational costs for small and large businesses
  • Support Tinubu’s economic reform agenda
  • Enhance energy access across rural and urban Nigeria
