The Kano State Police Command has launched a major crackdown on thuggery, popularly referred to as “Yan Daba”, following a series of violent clashes that recently rocked the metropolis.
The announcement came via an official statement issued on Sunday, June 15, by Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Hussaini, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
CP Bakori has declared a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of urban gang violence, ordering Area Commanders, DPOs, and tactical units to locate and neutralize all known hideouts harboring thugs across the state.
CP Bakori Issues Strong Warning
During a high-level security summit held on Saturday, June 14, the Commissioner issued marching orders to his commanders, stressing the urgency of proactive security measures before gang activities escalate into larger crises.
“The menace of Daba will no longer be tolerated. Officers must act before chaos breaks out,” CP Bakori stated.
He assured the people of Kano that the police are working tirelessly to restore peace, stressing that residents should be able to “sleep with their two eyes closed.”
Strategic Anti-Thuggery Operations Begin
The new approach includes:
- Intelligence-led raids on suspected thug enclaves
- Increased patrols and surveillance in volatile areas
- Rapid response to credible tips from the public
- Community-oriented policing to foster local cooperation
- Community Engagement and Inter-Agency Cooperation
The police command is also strengthening its community-policing strategy by working closely with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and residents. This collaboration is designed to build trust, gather actionable intelligence, and prevent criminal infiltration in neighborhoods.

Public Support Needed
While commending officers for their efforts so far, the Police Commissioner called on the public to remain alert and report suspicious movements or criminal activities without hesitation.
“The safety and security of the people of Kano remain our top priority,” the statement concluded. “We will not rest until the state is free from the grip of Daba gangs and all criminal threats.”
