NiMet Forecasts Widespread Thunderstorms and Rain Across Nigeria from Saturday to Monday.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and widespread rainfall across various parts of the country from Saturday, June 15 to Monday, June 17, 2025.

In its three-day weather outlook, released on Friday, NiMet advised Nigerians to prepare for early morning thunderstorms, heavy rain showers, and strong winds that may pose risks in several regions, especially in the northern, central, and southern parts of the country.


🌩 Saturday Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms Across North, Central, and South

  • Northern States such as Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa will experience early morning thunderstorms.
  • By afternoon, Kebbi, Borno, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi are likely to see thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
  • North-Central areas like Benue, Plateau, FCT, Niger, and Nasarawa will see thunderstorms in both morning and evening.

Southern States, including Enugu, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa, will witness cloudy conditions with intermittent rain, especially in the morning and later in the day.


⛈ Sunday Forecast: More Thunderstorms, Cloudy Skies

  • Northern States such as Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi remain under thunderstorm watch.
  • North-Central cities like FCT, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau should prepare for sunny intervals with expected rainfall later.
  • Southern Nigeria, including Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Imo, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom, will see isolated thunderstorms and rain, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.

🌧 Monday Weather Outlook: Warnings for Rain and Strong Winds

  • Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba are likely to experience morning thunderstorms, with further rainfall anticipated in Kano, Katsina, and Bauchi later in the day.
  • In the North-Central, FCT, Kogi, Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Plateau will see rains with cloudy skies in the morning and heavier showers in the evening.

The Southern States, including Ogun, Edo, Ondo, Bayelsa, and Delta, will experience morning and afternoon rains, with possible thunderstorm surges.
