Aviation Minister Keyamo Orders Probe into Clash Between Air Peace and Senator Oshiomhole.

The Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has launched a formal investigation into the recent clash between leading Nigerian airline Air Peace and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly.

In a statement posted to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Keyamo confirmed that he had been in direct contact with both parties since the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, Zulu Hall, Lagos.

What Really Happened?

The controversy started when Air Peace accused Oshiomhole of allegedly disrupting a flight and engaging in violent behavior after he was denied boarding. According to the airline, the former Edo State governor became unruly during the boarding process.

In response, Senator Oshiomhole denied all allegations, claiming that he had completed online check-in but was unjustly barred from boarding the flight. He also accused the airline of extortion and other unethical practices, sparking a heated exchange between both parties.

Keyamo Calls for Calm and Thorough Investigation

In his statement, Minister Keyamo urged both sides to remain calm and avoid escalating the issue with public statements.

“In the wake of the incident at the Lagos Airport last Wednesday involving AIRPEACE Airline and His Excellency, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, I have been in direct contact with both parties since that morning,” Keyamo wrote.

He added:

“Whilst appealing to both sides to halt the public accusations and counter-accusations, I am further directing the relevant aviation agencies to thoroughly look into the issue, collect all available evidence, and revert to my office so we can deal with the issue in such a way as to guide future conduct in similar situations.”

What to Expect

The Minister’s directive to aviation authorities signals a serious approach to conflict resolution within Nigeria’s aviation sector. With Air Peace being one of the nation’s most prominent airlines and Oshiomhole a key political figure, the outcome of this probe could set a precedent for how disputes involving public officials and private companies are handled.
