2027 Elections: Tinubu Tells PDP, Others to “Put Your House in Order”.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties to resolve their internal crises if they hope to be serious contenders in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Friday, June 14, during the commissioning of the newly constructed Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II — also known as the Apo-Wasa Road — Tinubu strongly dismissed claims of a plot to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

“Let Them Put Their House in Order”

Represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to a multiparty democracy, stating:

“Let them put their house in order… It is not the duty of the ruling party to help the opposition become effective.”

He emphasized that while he remains a dedicated party man, he will not intervene in the internal challenges currently rocking opposition parties, especially the PDP.

Opposition in Crisis?

The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, has faced repeated internal battles, leadership disputes, and defection woes since losing power in 2015. With 2027 approaching, political analysts have warned that failure to restructure and unify could leave the opposition weakened and disorganized.

Infrastructure First, Politics Later

The event marked the commissioning of a critical section of road infrastructure in the FCT. Tinubu used the occasion to highlight his administration’s ongoing focus on nation-building, economic reforms, and infrastructure development, stating that constructive opposition is important but must be self-driven.
