President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly extended an open invitation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the party will gladly welcome him if he decides to defect.
The President made the statement on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20 and other critical infrastructure projects in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

“We have somebody in Nyesom Wike. He’s not a member of our party—not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will join him in singing *‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us’,” Tinubu said.
- While acknowledging that Wike is currently not an APC member, Tinubu praised the FCT Administration under the Minister’s leadership for the successful execution of the infrastructure projects.
- The President highlighted that the project is a reflection of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the importance of infrastructural development to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
“This project represents more than a stretch of asphalt. It affirms our commitment to urban transformation. Since assuming office in May 2023, this administration has been guided by a philosophy anchored on reform and regeneration,” Tinubu noted.
He reiterated that infrastructure is a necessity, not a luxury, and that his administration is heavily investing in sectors crucial to national growth and development.
