President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to revamping infrastructure nationwide as part of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
At the inauguration ceremony held on Tuesday, President Tinubu described infrastructure as the “backbone of a thriving economy,” pledging massive investment in transportation, healthcare, education, energy, and urban development.
“Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are determined to renew infrastructure across the key sectors of this country,” Tinubu said.
“We understand that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving economy in an inclusive and progressive society.”
ICC: A Symbol of Nigeria’s Global Aspirations
The President stated that the newly renovated ICC is more than just a building—it is a reflection of Nigeria’s ambition to be a hub for continental trade, regional diplomacy, and global partnerships.
“The ICC is part of our larger vision to become a hub for regional diplomacy, continental trade discussions, and global partnerships that reflect our ‘Nigeria First’ philosophy,” he said.
Wike Earns Presidential Praise
- President Tinubu singled out FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for commendation, applauding him for delivering on his promise to overhaul the previously “dilapidated and uninhabitable” ICC.
- “Don’t pay attention to the busybodies and bystanders, whatever they say. Continue your good work,” Tinubu urged Wike.
- “You are a transformational leader with vision and determination.”
He recalled his disappointment during a previous visit to the ICC for the ECOWAS Parliament conference, stating:
“It was dirty, disorganized, and uninhabitable. I asked Wike, ‘Have we sunk this low?’ and he assured me the facility would be transformed. Today, I am very happy.”
Julius Berger Applauded for Quality Work
President Tinubu commended Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for the high standard of rehabilitation, noting that the work reflects “quality, commitment to detail, and good engineering.”
“Today, we are not talking about renegotiation. We are talking about results,” he said.
A Message of National Renewal
Describing the ICC upgrade as a symbol of national progress and hope, the President emphasized that Nigeria’s renewal is in motion, and the country is poised for greatness.
