Legendary British author Frederick Forsyth, best known for his international thrillers including The Day of the Jackal and The Dogs of War, has died at the age of 86.
His literary agency, Curtis Brown, confirmed that Forsyth passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.
“We mourn the passing of one of the world’s greatest thriller writers,” said his agent Jonathan Lloyd.
A Literary Icon
Frederick Forsyth was renowned for revolutionizing the political thriller genre with his crisp prose, detailed research, and fast-paced storytelling. His breakout novel, The Day of the Jackal (1971), set a new standard for spy fiction and was adapted into a successful film.
Over a prolific career spanning five decades, Forsyth penned numerous bestsellers, including:

- The Odessa File
- The Fourth Protocol
- The Fist of God
- The Afghan
His works, many inspired by real-life intelligence and political events, sold over 70 million copies worldwide and were translated into multiple languages.

Before becoming an acclaimed novelist, Forsyth worked as a BBC journalist and foreign correspondent, covering conflicts in Biafra, the Congo, and other global hotspots. His firsthand experiences often shaped the realistic backdrops of his novels.

Forsyth was also known for his outspoken views on politics, global security, and freedom of speech. In his 2015 memoir, The Outsider: My Life in Intrigue, he revealed his covert work for Britain’s MI6.
