Breaking: Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Defects from PDP to APC After Wide Consultation.

In a major political development, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made on Friday at the Akwa Ibom Government House in Uyo, drawing attention across Nigeria’s political landscape.

Governor Eno revealed that his defection came after three months of intensive consultations with key stakeholders across Akwa Ibom. According to him, the move is aimed at aligning the state with the federal government to ensure Akwa Ibom continues to benefit from national projects and development.

“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your elected servant, I have decided to progressively move to the APC,” Governor Eno stated.

He expressed admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and said the decision was also to support Senate President Godswill Akpabio, another political heavyweight from the South-South region.

“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We are doing this in the best interest of Akwa Ibom people,” Eno added.

Governor Umo Eno appreciated the PDP for the platform it provided throughout his political journey, but said it was time for a strategic political alignment.

The high-profile defection attracted several APC governors and party chieftains, including:

  • Hope Uzodimma (Imo State, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum)
  • Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State)
  • Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State)
  • Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta State)
  • Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi State)
  • Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo State)
  • Bassey Otu (Cross River State)
