The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called on Nigerian universities to critically examine how Nyesom Wike, a top member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured a high-profile position in the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture held at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, the respected traditional ruler described Wike’s political journey as a rare phenomenon that should be academically researched and documented.

“I want to especially commend President Bola Tinubu. Despite political differences, he appointed Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This level of political maturity and strategy is rare. It’s still a mystery to many, including myself,” the Ooni said while addressing the audience and the keynote speaker, Nyesom Wike.
The monarch emphasized the need for academic institutions and political science departments to study Wike’s political relevance, resilience, and influence, which has spanned over two decades in Nigerian politics.
“Hate him or love him, what will be, will be. Wike is a politician who deserves to be studied. I truly don’t know how he’s remained this relevant for 20 years. It’s impressive,” Ooni Ogunwusi added.
The event, held at Oduduwa Hall, OAU, featured Wike delivering a lecture on the theme: “Nigeria of Our Dreams”, where he shared his vision for national development, political unity, and progressive governance.

Earlier, Naija Blog Daily reported that Wike had been invited officially via a letter dated April 14, 2025. The invitation was signed by the University Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. K. A. Bakare.
