Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling a major shift in his political trajectory ahead of future elections.
El-Rufai completed his registration and received his ADC membership card at the party’s office in Ungwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna State, confirming weeks of speculation about his next political move.

NAIJABLOGDAILY earlier reported that El-Rufai, a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), exited the party earlier this year before joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
His latest defection marks another significant step in his ongoing political realignment.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory resigned from the APC on March 10, stating that the party had drifted from the ideals and principles upon which it was built.
In his resignation letter, he accused the APC leadership of abandoning its founding vision and failing to address growing internal concerns.

El-Rufai said he had continuously raised issues—both publicly and privately—about what he described as the party’s unhealthy internal climate, but his warnings were ignored.
According to him, the APC has become unresponsive, unaccountable, and disconnected from the progressive values it once championed.
His move to the ADC is viewed as a bold attempt to reposition himself politically while strengthening the party’s influence in Kaduna State and across Nigeria, especially as political realignments intensify ahead of upcoming elections.

In another development, El-Rufai also resigned from the SDP, a decision formalised in his letter dated November 26, 2025. He explained that his priority is to help build a unified and credible political platform that can offer Nigerians a real alternative.
- “I wish to notify you that I have resigned my membership of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, effective 26 November 2025,” he wrote.
El-Rufai’s official entry into the ADC underscores a significant reshuffling within Nigeria’s opposition landscape and sets the stage for new political dynamics in the months ahead.
