Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed that the security of residents remains a top priority for his administration, emphasizing that the state is willing to bear the financial cost necessary to protect lives and property.
Governor Otti made the remarks on Thursday during a familiarisation visit by the newly posted General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo. He stressed that security requires substantial investment, but any efforts would fail if people do not feel safe.
- “Security costs a lot of money, but we spare no effort to ensure our people are protected. If citizens cannot sleep with peace of mind, no investment, however large, will yield results,” Otti said.
The governor assured Major General Fadairo of full cooperation from the state government and encouraged him to visit all army locations and battalions within Abia to assess security needs firsthand.

In his response, the GOC, who also serves as Commander of the South-East Joint Task Force, “Operation Udoka,” expressed confidence in leveraging his previous experience in the region to combat insecurity and criminal activities across Abia State and the broader South-East.
- “I served here as a young officer and know the nooks and corners of this area. This posting is a blessing to the operation,” Fadairo said.
The Major General also solicited the continued support of the Abia State Government and residents, thanking Governor Otti for his unwavering backing of security agencies in the state.
