Ezra Olubi, co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer of Paystack, has claimed that he was unfairly fired by the company following allegations of sexual misconduct. Olubi made the revelation in a blog post published on November 23, 2025.
The controversy began in mid-November after a viral social media post accused Olubi of abusive behaviour, which led to scrutiny of tweets he had posted between 2009 and 2013. The resurfaced posts, containing explicit content, sparked widespread criticism online.

In response to the allegations, Paystack confirmed it had suspended Olubi and initiated a formal investigation, stating that an independent investigator would be appointed to review the matter.
However, in his blog post titled “Terminated”, Olubi said he was dismissed before the investigation was completed and without being allowed to respond.
- “Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online,” Olubi wrote.
He explained that he initially remained silent to avoid interfering with the investigation and expected a fair and unbiased review of the allegations.
- “I was not given a meeting or an opportunity to respond before my contract was ended,” he added, noting that the termination contravened the terms of his suspension and company policies.
Olubi emphasized that the resurfaced tweets do not reflect his actual conduct, writing:
- “Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life. I have always conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety.”

He concluded by stating that his legal team would explore possible steps in response to the termination.
The allegations surfaced after a former acquaintance posted personal complaints online, prompting renewed attention to Olubi’s past social media activity. Following the backlash, he deactivated his X account.
Founded in 2015 by Olubi and Shola Akinlade, Paystack is a leading African payments company. It was the first Nigerian startup accepted into Y Combinator in 2016 and was acquired by Stripe in 2020 for over $200 million.
