The Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja) has officially appointed Mrs. Roseline Adakayi as the institution’s new Acting Registrar.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by Dr. Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of Information. The appointment, approved by the Council Chairman, Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, is effective May 12, 2025, and will last for six months, pending the appointment of a substantive registrar.
Adakayi succeeds Mrs. Islamiya Abdulraheem, whose own six-month term ended the same day.
“Mrs. Adakayi joined the University as an Administrative Officer on November 2, 1999, and rose to become a Deputy Registrar in 2013,” the statement said.
Adakayi is a seasoned university administrator with decades of experience in various departments, including:
- Student Affairs Division
- Establishments Division
- Institute of Education
- Council Division
- College of Health Sciences
- Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education
She holds a B.Sc. in Geography from the University of Jos (1986), a Professional Diploma in Land Surveying from the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo (1990), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Photogrammetry from RECTAS, Ile-Ife (1994). She recently concluded a sabbatical leave at the University of Jos in April 2024.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patricia Lar, praised Adakayi’s credentials and expressed optimism about her tenure.
“I congratulate Mrs. Adakayi on her appointment as Acting Registrar and Secretary to the Council. I’m confident that with her vast experience, she will serve the university diligently,” Lar said.

She also appreciated the outgoing registrar, Mrs. Islamiya Abdulraheem, for her contributions during her tenure.
“Let me also thank Mrs. Abdulraheem for successfully ending her six-month tenure today as Acting Registrar. It has been nice working with her,” she added.
