Kaduna, May 10, 2025 —
In response to worsening insecurity in Northern Nigeria, 14 out of the 19 Northern Governors, under the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF), met today in Kaduna to demand a comprehensive review of the nation’s security strategies.
The high-level meeting, which included members of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council—such as Emirs and Chiefs from across the region—highlighted renewed concerns over the resurgence of Boko Haram in the North-East and persistent killings in North-Central states.
Governors present at the critical security summit included those from Zamfara, Kaduna, Gombe, Jigawa, Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba, Nasarawa, Yobe, Niger, Sokoto, Plateau, Katsina, and Kogi. Governors of Borno, Kwara, Kano, Benue, and Bauchi were represented.

Gombe State Governor and NGF Chairman, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, while addressing the gathering at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, stressed the urgent need for synergy between federal, state, and local security bodies. He urged the Federal Government to reassess existing strategies in tackling terrorism, banditry, and communal conflicts in the region.
“Our region is bleeding. We must act fast. The renewed Boko Haram attacks and violent killings across our communities demand a more robust and inclusive security architecture,” Yahaya said.
He praised President Bola Tinubu for his proactive stance on national security but called for more effective measures. Yahaya also extended condolences to victims in Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, and Yobe states.
Infrastructure in Northern Nigeria was also a key focus. Yahaya criticized the neglect of major projects like the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line and the Kano-Maiduguri expressway, urging the use of public-private partnerships and infrastructure bonds to close development gaps.
He advocated the revitalization of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) as a vehicle for regional economic growth, provided it undergoes restructuring, skilled leadership, and strong accountability.
In addition, Governor Yahaya highlighted the Almajiri crisis, youth unemployment, poor educational infrastructure, and climate-related conflicts such as farmer-herder clashes as major issues needing immediate action. He emphasized human capital development, technical training, and youth empowerment as long-term solutions.
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, in his welcome remarks, also praised President Tinubu’s infrastructure revival, especially the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway, calling it a vital transport link connecting over 12 Northern states with the South.

“Mr. President has shown leadership by acting on long-abandoned projects. The Northern people will remember him for his listening ear and firm actions,” Sani stated.
Governor Sani called for a concrete roadmap and funding strategy to tackle insecurity, promote peace, improve governance, and accelerate regional development. “We no longer have the luxury of time. Our people demand tangible results,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a unified resolve among Northern leaders to rise above political differences and work collectively to restore peace and development across the North.
