Sanwo-Olu Commissions State-of-the-Art Accident and Emergency Centre in Epe.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated a newly completed Accident and Emergency Centre at the Federal Medical Centre in Epe, marking a major milestone in emergency healthcare delivery in the region.

The world-class facility, donated by Custodian Foundation, is the first of its kind in Epe and is equipped to handle trauma and life-threatening emergencies with speed and efficiency. This intervention aims to bridge the long-standing gap in emergency medical care for residents of Epe and neighboring communities.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the centre was designed to alleviate the challenges faced by the former Epe General Hospital, which lacked specialized infrastructure to manage critical medical emergencies.

The facility, now under the Lagos State Ministry of Health, features triage units, emergency wards, diagnostic facilities, and modern treatment zones. It is fully powered by solar energy, constructed with eco-friendly materials, and includes modern theatres, staff lounges, and training rooms, reflecting a strong focus on sustainable, patient-centered healthcare.

Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the project as a landmark public-private partnership (PPP) achievement. He praised Custodian Investment Plc for their commitment to social responsibility and emphasized that the centre reflects his administration’s broader vision for a healthier, safer, and more progressive Lagos.

“This emergency centre is a bold step in expanding urgent medical care in our riverine and underserved communities,” Sanwo-Olu said. “It raises the benchmark for collaboration between government and the private sector in delivering quality healthcare.”

Special Adviser on Health, Kemi Ogunyemi, added that the facility is divided into four color-coded emergency zones—Red, Yellow, Blue, and Green—to support rapid assessment and treatment.

Custodian Investment Plc’s Managing Director, Wole Oshin, explained that after initial setbacks in siting the project elsewhere, Epe was selected for its strategic importance and accessibility.

The new centre is expected to significantly boost emergency response time, improve public confidence in the healthcare system, and ultimately reduce preventable deaths in the area.
