Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced a revision in its SMS transaction alert fee, increasing the charge from ₦4 to ₦6 per message. The new rate will take effect from Thursday, May 1, 2025.
In an official message sent to customers on Wednesday, the bank stated:
“Dear valued customer, please be informed that effective Thursday, May 1, 2025, the SMS transaction alert fee will increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message.”
Reason for the Price Hike
- GTBank explained that the increase in SMS alert fees is a direct result of rising telecommunication service charges in Nigeria.
- “This adjustment is due to a recent increase in telecom rates as communicated by the telecommunication service providers,” the notice read.
Importance of SMS Alerts and Opt-Out Option
The bank reiterated the significance of SMS transaction alerts in protecting customer accounts and monitoring banking activity.
- “Transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account,” GTBank emphasized.
However, customers who prefer alternative methods of receiving notifications can opt out of SMS alerts. To do so, users are advised to fill out the transaction alert form available on the bank’s website and send it to gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com.
