The Presidency has responded to the recent ruling by a United States District Court in Washington, D.C., which ordered the FBI and DEA to release documents relating to the criminal investigation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, addressed the matter on Sunday, stating that there is “nothing new to reveal” concerning the long-standing case.
Onanuga noted that the documents and reports by FBI Agent Kevin Moss and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have been in the public domain for over 30 years and do not contain any new or incriminating information about President Tinubu.
“There is nothing new to be revealed. The report by Agent Moss of the FBI and the DEA has been in the public space for more than 30 years. The reports did not indict the Nigerian leader. The lawyers are examining the ruling,” Onanuga posted on X (formerly Twitter).
NaijaBlogDaily earlier reported that Judge Beryl Howell ruled on April 8, 2025, ordering the FBI and DEA to process and release all non-exempt records tied to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by Aaron Greenspan, founder of PlainSite, a U.S.-based legal transparency platform.

Greenspan alleged that the U.S. agencies violated FOIA guidelines by refusing to release records relating to Tinubu and Abiodun Agbele, despite the statutory time frame. He also referenced a previous $460,000 forfeiture by Tinubu in 1993, which U.S. authorities linked to suspected narcotics trafficking proceeds.
Judge Howell dismissed the government’s Glomar response (refusal to confirm or deny record existence) as “neither logical nor plausible,” stating that public interest outweighs any claimed privacy concerns.
Meanwhile, the Presidency maintains its stance that the documents contain no new revelations, while legal teams continue to review the U.S. court’s decision.
