Economic Diplomacy: U.S. Envoy Meets Tinubu in Paris to Deepen Africa Trade Ties.

The United States has initiated high-level discussions with President Bola Tinubu aimed at expanding economic cooperation across Africa, with Nigeria positioned as a central player in regional trade and development.

The meeting, held on Thursday in Paris, featured U.S. State Department Senior Advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, and came during President Tinubu’s working visit to France.

According to the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, which shared details on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the talks also focused on regional security challenges, especially in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“State Department Senior Advisor for Africa Massad Boulos met with President Tinubu… to discuss regional security, including working together with partners to build a durable peace in eastern DRC,” the post read.

“They also discussed expanding opportunities for economic cooperation throughout Africa,” the statement added.

Nigeria’s Strategic Role in U.S.-Africa Relations

The meeting underscores the growing American interest in African development, with Nigeria seen as a key anchor in West Africa. Under President Tinubu, Nigeria strives to position itself as a hub for investment, innovation, and industrial growth on the continent.

President Tinubu has repeatedly emphasized the importance of global partnerships in accelerating job creation, infrastructure development, and economic transformation in Africa.

Though the full scope of economic agreements discussed has not been disclosed, policy analysts say the meeting signals renewed U.S. commitment to partnering with African nations, especially as economic influence in the region becomes more competitive globally.
