Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has imposed a ban on public gatherings and convoy movements, citing security concerns. However, many believe the move is aimed at preventing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters from celebrating her homecoming.
The announcement was made on Monday in a statement by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications.
“We have received intelligence suggesting that certain individuals are planning to stage violent rallies under the guise of political and religious agitations,” the statement read.
Key Restrictions Announced by the Kogi Government
✔ Ban on all public rallies and gatherings until further notice
✔ Regulation of security convoys entering the state, requiring prior clearance
✔ Suspension of fishing activities in Kogi LGA following a recent violent crisis
✔ Deployment of security operatives to maintain peace and order
While the government insists these measures are temporary and necessary, critics argue that they are politically motivated.

Backlash Against Ododo’s Administration
Governor Ododo has faced mounting criticism for allegedly protecting his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, from prosecution over financial crimes. Many believe this latest restriction is an attempt to suppress opposition voices and maintain political dominance.
Despite the ban, Senator Akpoti’s supporters have vowed to find alternative ways to celebrate her return.
