97 Lawyers Defend ADC, Mark, Aregbesola Against APC’s ‘Fake Lawsuit’.

ABUJA —

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has mobilized a powerful team of 97 lawyers to defend its interim leadership, including former Senate President David Mark and former Minister Rauf Aregbesola, against what it describes as a “fake lawsuit” filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The legal team, led by Barrister Mohammed Sheriff, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja, accusing the ruling APC of engaging in Machiavellian politics by allegedly filing a court case using the names of individuals not affiliated with the ADC.

ADC Denounces Politically Motivated Legal Action

The ADC claims that the plaintiffs listed in the APC-backed suit are neither members of the party in Kogi nor Nasarawa State, dismissing the legal action as dishonest and baseless.

“It smacks of desperation that a party entrusted with leading over 200 million Nigerians would engage in such dishonesty,” the ADC stated.

David Mark: “We Are Equal Stakeholders”

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting with the ADC Kogi State chapter, David Mark, the ADC’s Interim National Chairman, reaffirmed his commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and national unity.

“I don’t own this party more than any other member… All Nigerians must come together and take ownership of the ADC,” Mark said.

He cautioned against political passivity, warning that Nigeria’s democracy is at risk if citizens fail to hold political leaders accountable.

Mark also took a swipe at the APC, accusing it of misgovernance and failure to deliver on key promises, particularly in the area of security.

“If they admitted that insecurity was bad and promised to improve it but instead made it worse, should Nigerians continue to support them? The answer is no,” he declared.

Legal Team Ready for Battle

Barrister Mohammed Sheriff stated that the ADC’s National Legal Support Team is ready to challenge the lawsuit in court, labeling it a politically motivated attack.

  • “We are fully prepared to defend the ADC and its leaders against this baseless and fraudulent legal action,” Sheriff said.

The ADC emphasized that its mission is to rebuild Nigeria’s democracy through people-driven policies, transparency, and accountable governance.

  • “Let us work together to rebuild this nation for future generations,” Mark urged supporters.
