Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has confirmed the release of 38 worshippers abducted during an attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti LGA.

The announcement, made via a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, credited the hands-on involvement of President Bola Tinubu and the coordinated efforts of federal and state security agencies for the successful rescue.

“After many days of hard work by security forces and government representatives, HE AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON) is excited to announce the freedom of 38 persons who were recently abducted in an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Eruku, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State,” the statement read.

Governor AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for postponing his G20 trip in South Africa to personally oversee security measures in Kwara and Kebbi states. He also thanked the Office of the National Security Adviser, DSS, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and Nigeria Police, which deployed four new tactical teams to the state on presidential directive.

Confirming the rescue to NAIJABLOGDAILY, CAC Oke Isegun Secretary Michael Agbabiaka said the DSS informed the community around 4 pm that the captives had been freed. He added that the community eagerly awaited their return to reunite with families.

The abduction, which occurred on Tuesday, claimed three lives and sparked national outrage. The successful rescue followed an intensive operation involving soldiers, DSS operatives, Special Tactical Squad units, SWAT personnel, anti-kidnapping teams, and local vigilantes, highlighting the state’s growing commitment to combating banditry along its borders with Kogi and Niger states.
