2027: PDP Can’t Give Presidential Ticket to the North – Wike Warns.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has firmly declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot and should not hand its 2027 presidential ticket to any candidate from the North.

Wike made this statement during a live media chat on Monday, in what many observers believe was a veiled reference to Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential flagbearer from the North.

“PDP cannot give the presidential ticket to the North in 2027,” Wike said. “Selfishness can kill a system.”

He argued that it would be politically unwise for the opposition party to field a northern candidate in 2027, especially if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) retains power and returns the ticket to the North in 2031.

“For example, if Mr. President (Tinubu) runs and wins in 2027, by 2031, APC will zone the presidency to the North. What will PDP do then?” he questioned. “Will we also give it to the North just to copy APC?”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has been vocal about zoning and equity within the PDP, especially since the internal crisis that rocked the party before the 2023 general elections.

His latest remarks are expected to intensify the debate within PDP ranks as the party strategizes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
