The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has clarified that it would not be an insult if the All Progressives Congress (APC) or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu offered Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso the vice-presidential slot ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Ladipo Johnson, NNPP spokesman and long-time Kwankwaso ally, said several APC stakeholders have reached out about a possible Tinubu-Kwankwaso ticket in the next election cycle.
- “It’s not insulting to offer him the vice president slot; whether he accepts or not is a different matter,” Johnson stated.
NNPP Open to Dialogue
Johnson emphasized that since the 2023 elections, the NNPP has maintained an open-door policy, willing to engage with any political party interested in Nigeria’s progress.

- “People from the APC have called me to say: ‘If he is offered, please encourage him to accept.’ But ultimately, it is a team game,” he added.
Kwankwaso’s Political Clout Remains Strong
Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State and NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, continues to wield significant political influence across Kano State and Northern Nigeria. He is widely regarded as a major stakeholder in any national political alignment ahead of 2027.
Johnson, who has worked with Kwankwaso since 2013, noted that any decision regarding potential alliances or running mate offers would be made through internal consensus within the NNPP.
