The Obidient Movement has dismissed the ultimatum issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which asked opposition coalition members to quit their respective political parties and join ADC.
The group described the move as unfair and made in bad faith, stressing that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president in 2027.

National Coordinator of the Movement, Tanko Yunusa, addressed the issue in Abuja on Friday while responding to ADC’s directive, earlier announced by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
Abdullahi revealed that the decision was reached at an ADC caucus meeting with top coalition members, noting that although members were directed to resign from their parties, no timeline was given.
In reaction, Yunusa said:
- “Our attention has been drawn to the recent statement released by the African Democratic Congress concerning the resolutions of the Coalition and our role within it.

- “We wish to restate our position clearly. While we remain fully committed to the vision of the Coalition and acknowledge the adoption of the ADC as the coalition platform, it is on record that His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi aligned with the coalition’s position after the Anambra State Governorship Election, extending to the 2027 General Elections.
- “This adoption and pronouncement were made publicly by the party. We are therefore concerned as to why the resolution is now being altered midway into the agreement.”
He further explained that Obi, being a national leader with wide appeal, has always consulted extensively before making any political decision.
