The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially begun processing the registration requests of 110 new political associations, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This update comes just 24 hours after INEC clarified that ADA — a newly formed coalition reportedly backed by prominent opposition figures — had not yet met all legal requirements for full registration.
INEC Chairman Confirms Processing
In a statement released on Wednesday, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, confirmed that letters of intent had been received from 110 associations seeking political party status.
- “As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Prof. Yakubu said.
He explained that the Commission is currently reviewing all applications under the provisions of the Electoral Act, INEC’s internal Regulations and Guidelines, and all applicable laws.
ADA Among Political Associations Being Considered
Although ADA had earlier been declared non-compliant, it is now officially listed among the political groups whose registration is under review. This comes amid growing interest from civic groups, youth coalitions, and political stakeholders hoping to challenge the status quo in the 2027 polls.

“We are diligently processing the requests… We have acknowledged all received so far, except six new ones which will be done before the end of the week,” Yakubu added.
INEC Encourages Transparency and Compliance
INEC further called on interested groups to consult the 2022 Handbook on Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which is now publicly available on the Commission’s website.
The move signals a crucial step towards expanding Nigeria’s political space as the country prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 general election.
