2026: PDP Unveils Chairmanship Candidates for FCT Area Councils.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finalized its internal electoral process for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, officially announcing its chairmanship candidates for all six area councils.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chris Hassan, who confirmed that the party’s primaries were conducted peacefully, free from violence or irregularities.


Breakdown of PDP Chairmanship Candidates by Area Council:

Kuje Area Council:

  • Mr. Zacharia Danlami emerged as the sole candidate after his only rival, Mr. Michael Jigu, withdrew from the race. Danlami secured all 30 delegate votes.

Abaji Area Council:

  • Mr. Musa Biliyanmu ran unopposed and clinched the candidacy with 30 votes.

Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC):

  • Mr. Zadna Dintani scored 24 votes to defeat Mr. William Gaje, who polled 12 votes.

Gwagwalada Area Council:

  • Mr. Kasim Mohammed emerged victorious with 19 votes, defeating Mr. Rabiu Adamu, who received 11 votes.

Kwali Area Council:

  • Among the three contestants, Mr. Harruna Mohammed won with 13 votes, edging out Mr. Daniel Ibrahim (11 votes) and Mr. Shashim Zaka (6 votes).

Bwari Area Council:

  • In the most contested race with six aspirants, Mr. Julius Adamu secured victory with 19 votes. His closest challenger, Mr. Bitrus Jibada, got 6 votes, while the others — Harruna Mohammed, Ibrahim Dauda, and Zaka Bello — received 1, 1, and 0 votes, respectively.

Speaking after the announcement, Chris Hassan said:

“I want to gladly announce to you that the elections were rancour-free and went smoothly in line with the ideals of our party. It is our desire that all aspirants and candidates will work towards the success of the elections come 2026.”

The PDP’s early preparations signal its commitment to reclaiming or retaining political dominance in the FCT as the countdown to the 2026 general elections begins.
