FG Assures Residents and Visitors That the Capital Remains Safe and Secure
The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed recent security concerns raised by the United States Mission, affirming that Abuja remains safe for all residents and visitors.
This response comes after the US Embassy in Nigeria issued a security advisory restricting its staff and their families from visiting military or government facilities in Abuja, citing “increased global security concerns.”
🧾 Nigeria Responds to US Security Advisory
In a statement released on Monday, Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, stated that while the government respects the right of foreign missions to issue advisories, there is no credible threat to security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
- “While the Federal Government recognizes and respects the right of foreign missions, including the U.S. Embassy, to issue travel advisories to their citizens, it is important to state categorically that Abuja remains safe for citizens, residents, and visitors alike,” Idris said.
🛡 Security Agencies Fully Alert – FG
The Minister assured the public that Nigeria’s security agencies are actively monitoring and neutralizing threats, ensuring peace and stability in Abuja and across the nation.

🔁 US Advisory That Sparked Reactions
As earlier reported by Naija Blog Daily, the US Mission in Nigeria had warned American citizens to avoid non-official visits to military or government facilities in Abuja, due to unspecified global security concerns.
The embassy urged US nationals in Nigeria to avoid large gatherings, stay alert, and review their personal security plans.
- Despite the tension, the US Embassy and Consulate General in Lagos remain fully operational.
