Afrobeats Star Credits Olamide for Helping Him Reclaim the Smash Hit from Young Jonn
Nigerian singer and rapper Lil Kesh has opened up about how he nearly gave away his breakthrough hit “Efejoku” — one of the songs that helped launch him into stardom.
In a recent interview, the Afrobeats artist revealed that after recording “Efejoku,” he didn’t initially see the song’s full potential and was ready to let it go, even offering it to its producer, Young Jonn, known for crafting multiple chart-topping bangers.
- “I didn’t know the value of the song,” Lil Kesh said. “I’m a melody-driven artist, and ‘Efejoku’ didn’t really fit my vibe at the time.”
🔁 How Olamide (Baddo) Changed Everything
The turning point came when Lil Kesh played the song for Olamide, the influential music executive and YBNL Nation boss, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.
“Baddo was blown away when he heard it,” Kesh recalled. “I told him I had dashed it to Young Jonn and he said, ‘What? You better go collect your song!’”
