Kenneth Okonkwo: INEC Wrote and Allocated 2023 Election Results to Peter Obi.

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) manipulated the 2023 general election results by writing and allocating figures to candidates, including Peter Obi.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo claimed that all the votes Peter Obi received were “written and allocated” by INEC, not genuinely collated from the polling units.

He further accused INEC of failing to upload polling unit results to its portal as mandated by law, more than two years after the election.

“There is no explanation to it till today. Recall that I said that they wrote the results. The result given to Obi was allocated to him; that’s written. Go to Rivers State,” Okonkwo stated.

Okonkwo lamented that in places like Lagos, where Obi purportedly won by over a million votes, INEC allegedly reduced the figures. He also pointed to Rivers State, claiming the original results were rewritten to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC).

When reminded that the Supreme Court had affirmed Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory, Okonkwo insisted that the judgment did not address whether results were manipulated, but rather focused on the inability of petitioners to provide substantial evidence.

“No, the court is not telling you they wrote, or they did not write. The court is telling you, ‘you did not produce the evidence to show substantial evidence that they wrote’. Where will you bring the evidence?” he asked.

On why the Labour Party failed to station agents at all polling units, Okonkwo explained that the Electoral Act acknowledges that political parties might lack the resources to deploy agents nationwide, hence the use of the word “may” in its provisions.

He questioned why agents would even be necessary if INEC were truly impartial:

“Why do you need an agent if you are operating under INEC, an INEC that is not corrupt and that will not manipulate the result? INEC collected 400 billion naira to organize the election in Nigeria,” he said.

The controversy surrounding the 2023 election continues to stir strong reactions, as opposition figures like Okonkwo challenge the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
