JUST IN: Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for N1.7 Trillion 2025 FCT Budget.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the approval of the Senate for the 2025 Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Appropriation Bill totaling ₦1.7 trillion.

The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary on Wednesday.

According to President Tinubu, the proposed budget aligns with Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which vests legislative authority over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly.

“The 2025 FCT Budget Proposal prioritises investment in healthcare, job creation, youth empowerment, social welfare services, education infrastructure, and agricultural productivity,” the letter read in part.

Budget Breakdown and Focus Areas

President Tinubu emphasized that the 2025 budget aims to alleviate poverty and boost development within the FCT, with a strategic focus on:

  • Healthcare services
  • Job creation
  • Youth and women’s empowerment
  • Social welfare programs
  • Education and school infrastructure
  • Agricultural productivity

Out of the total ₦1.7 trillion, 85% of capital expenditure will be dedicated to the completion of ongoing projects, while the remaining 15% will fund new capital projects across the FCT.

“This is to sustain the ongoing efforts at providing basic infrastructure and social amenities in the FCT,” President Tinubu noted.
