In a major political shake-up, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reportedly directed all commissioners and political appointees in his administration to either defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with him or tender their resignation.
The directive was allegedly given during a State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Thursday, where Governor Eno officially confirmed his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC.
Political Realignment in Akwa Ibom
Sources at the meeting revealed that Governor Eno emphasized his decision should not surprise any loyal appointee.
“Anyone who claims not to know about my move to the APC is still living in the 18th century,” the governor reportedly declared.
He cited his admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership as a major reason for his defection, expressing his desire to work more closely with the Federal Government.
Ultimatum to Appointees
The governor made it clear there would be no compromise for those unwilling to align with his new political direction.
“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with anyone,” Governor Eno warned.

He further cautioned those thinking of using the PDP platform against him, asserting:
- “If you believe you can use PDP to fight me after I leave, you’re wrong. I will still control the PDP structure in the state.”
