Two former Vice Presidents of Nigeria—Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo arrived at Osun state and paid a courtesy visit to former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, at his Ilesa country home.

The high-profile visit comes just hours before the much-anticipated coronation of the 49th Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, scheduled to take place today in Ilesa, Osun State.

Earlier, Naija Blog Daily reported that the Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa on Thursday declined to halt the coronation ceremony, clearing the path for today’s royal event.

Atiku Abubakar confirmed the visit via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, sharing a video clip that captured him and Sambo in a cheerful breakfast meeting with Aregbesola.

He posted: “Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola.”

While the exact purpose of the visit remains unofficial, the presence of political heavyweights such as former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, and former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam, suggests a strategic political gathering under Aregbesola’s camp.

Atiku Abubakar’s Arrival in Ondo

In an earlier update, Atiku shared his arrival at Akure Airport, Ondo State, where he was warmly welcomed by stakeholders ahead of the royal coronation.

He wrote: “I was warmly received by stakeholders on arrival at the Akure Airport in Ondo State, ahead of the coronation of the 49th HRH Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup today.”
