Atiku, Obi Defend Corps Member Raye Over Viral Criticism of Tinubu’s Government.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi have thrown their support behind Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, following her viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s government over the rising cost of living.

Raye, a Lagos-based corps member, had accused National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) officials of threatening her after she voiced her frustration over Nigeria’s economic hardship.

Atiku: “Raye Deserves Encouragement, Not Vilification”

Atiku praised Raye for her courage, comparing her to legendary Nigerian female activists like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo. He stated:

Atiku’s response to the situation

“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion popular participation and advocacy. Her fearless resolve to speak truth to power should be encouraged, not met with hostility.”

He described her as a symbol of Nigerian youth, urging the government to support, rather than silence, young voices.

Obi: “Nigeria Must Respect Freedom of Speech”

Peter Obi condemned Raye’s intimidation, stating that her experience reflects a disturbing pattern in which dissenting voices are threatened instead of engaged.

“I, too, have been subjected to threats, intimidation, and name-calling for offering constructive suggestions. A government that silences its citizens is not democratic and often lacks accountability,” Obi said.

Peter obi’s response to the situation

He urged the Tinubu administration to embrace constructive criticism as a cornerstone of democratic progress.

“A just and prosperous Nigeria should be one where people like Raye are encouraged to speak out, while those in government take urgent action to address pressing issues.”
