Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a stern public warning to members of his cabinet, threatening to immediately sack any commissioner or special adviser found guilty of indolence, insubordination, or dereliction of duty.
The governor’s strong message, captured in a video interview posted by African Independent Television (AIT) and reported by Punch Online, comes amid growing concerns about nonchalant attitudes among some cabinet members who allegedly claim that “Mkpo Ibaha” (meaning “there’s nothing in government”) to justify their inaction.

Governor Eno, who described his cabinet as his “first eleven,” emphasized that he expects full commitment and presence at all official functions, planned or unplanned. He noted that the latest warning was triggered by an incident where key officials abandoned him at an unscheduled event, demonstrating a lack of seriousness toward their responsibilities.
“From now henceforth, when you hear I have fired a commissioner from your local government, it’s because of insubordination,” Eno declared.
He stressed that government work is a full-time commitment, warning that any appointee who prioritizes personal interests over public service should expect to receive a “red card.”
“The fact that I am simple does not mean I am an appointed governor. I was elected by the people,” Eno added.

Governor Eno also reminded the public of his own time as commissioner, stating he never once left his then-governor behind on duty. He urged appointees to demonstrate loyalty, dedication, and alignment with his administration’s ARISE Agenda—a development blueprint aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy to Akwa Ibom residents.
This latest stance highlights the governor’s growing impatience with internal laxity and signals a possible cabinet shake-up if current officeholders fail to meet expectations.
