Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that his viral hit “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, was inspired by legendary highlife musician Bright Chimezie.

In a heartwarming FaceTime conversation, Davido told Chimezie that the classic track “Because of English” influenced the creative direction of his new global hit.

“The latest hit I just did with Omah Lay, I used inspiration from your song, ‘Because of English’,” Davido shared.

Chimezie, visibly touched, responded with joy, “Okay, that would be wonderful, that would be nice.”

Davido further expressed his admiration for Chimezie’s timeless sound and extended an open invitation to bring the legend to Lagos so they could meet in person.

“It would be nice to meet you face-to-face,” Davido said. “I’m still around for a bit, so I was telling them maybe we will get you to come to Lagos so we will meet.”
