2027 Presidency: Atiku, PDP Governors Not Truthful – Wike Warns of Another Election Loss.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cautioning that the party risks another defeat in the 2027 presidential election if current issues of impunity and internal disunity are not urgently addressed.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, April 18, 2025, Wike lashed out at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Governors Forum, and others pushing for a coalition of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 polls, describing them as “not truthful” and insincere in their actions.

Wike, a key player in the internal conflicts that rocked PDP during the 2023 elections, accused the party’s leadership of repeating past mistakes, particularly around power-sharing and party constitution violations.

“One of the reasons why PDP lost in 2023 was impunity,” Wike stated. “Some leaders believed they had all it takes and refused to respect the constitution of the party, especially the agreement on zoning between North and South.”

The minister further criticized the PDP Governors Forum, branding it a “pressure group” with no constitutional standing within the party. He warned that the forum’s continued interference could deepen the party’s crisis and sabotage its chances in 2027.

Wike also revealed a private conversation with Governor Seyi Makinde, chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, over recent comments made during a television appearance. He said Makinde was “not telling the truth” regarding the internal state of the party and the proposed coalition.

This comes after Atiku initiated talks to form a broad coalition of opposition forces to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the next general election. However, Governor Makinde and other PDP governors have distanced themselves from the plan.

With these tensions mounting, Wike’s comments have stirred renewed concerns over the future of PDP, as internal wrangling continues to threaten party unity.
